about the treatment

Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of small, sterilised needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. This process stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin. By inducing controlled skin damage, micro-needling triggers the body’s natural healing response, resulting in the growth of new skin cells, increased blood flow, and improved skin texture. The treatment is effective in reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and stretch marks, and is a minimally invasive alternative to more extensive cosmetic procedures.

how it works

Before the procedure, a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to reduce any discomfort. An electric skin-needling device is then gently rolled over the skin. Fine needles will prick your skin up to 2mm deep, leaving small wounds behind. This triggers your body to enter healing mode, prompting the production of skin-repairing collagen and elastin.

During the microneedling procedure, it is common for patients to experience a sensation similar to having sandpaper gently rubbed across the treated area. Additionally, it is not uncommon for the skin to become visibly reddened and tight, creating a sensation akin to that of a mild sunburn.

Foremost, the optimal candidate for micro-needling should possess realistic expectations. Secondly, they should have a skin condition that is amenable to treatment with microneedling.

Micro-needling results may take some time to become noticeable, sometimes up to six weeks following treatment. Although micro-needling is generally considered safe and effective, some patients may experience temporary swelling, redness, or sensitivity in the treated area, which typically fades within a few days. Mild bleeding during the procedure is also normal. Nevertheless, there are some potential risks associated with micro-needling. In rare cases, patients may experience one or more of the following symptoms: prolonged swelling, redness, discomfort, flaking skin, infection, or scarring. Individuals with specific skin conditions, including active skin infection, acne, keloid scarring, sensitive skin, open wounds, psoriasis, and eczema, should avoid treatment altogether. Additionally, pregnant women and individuals receiving radiation therapy are advised to refrain from micro-needling.

To prepare for your procedure, it is recommended that you avoid IPL/laser treatments, unprotected sun exposure, and sunburn for at least two weeks beforehand. Refrain from using waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis on the treatment area for 5-7 days prior to the procedure, and avoid shaving on the day of the procedure to prevent skin irritation. If you take medication for an autoimmune disease, it is important to abstain from it for 24 hours before the treatment. Additionally, it is advised to avoid using any topical creams for up to a week before the procedure and to refrain from taking any blood thinners. If you have been using acne medication, it is recommended to discontinue use for up to 6 months before the treatment. Finally, please ensure that all makeup is removed prior to the treatment.

Aftercare is an important part of the treatment process. The recovery time from micro needling is typically 24 hours, but it may take up to two or three days depending on the extent of the treatment. It is recommended to avoid wearing any SPF for up to 24 hours, and refrain from going to the gym or using any heat treatments during this time. Only apply the lift HG gel or rescue calming complex given to you by your aesthetician. It’s important to avoid your normal skincare routine until 24 hours later, and to drink plenty of water while refraining from alcohol.
